Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to what we're asked most by owners buying and running a boat in New Zealand from overseas.

What is the Kororā Cruising Club?

The Kororā Cruising Club is owned and operated by European Marine Imports Limited (European Marine), who are the agents for SARGO Boats and Sasga Yachts for New Zealand and Australia. European Marine was established by Ernest Henshaw, whose vision was to bring in the highest quality boats from Europe. The Kororā Cruising Club was established to offer foreign boaties an opportunity to own a boat in New Zealand and explore our cruising, hassle-free.

We're not from New Zealand — do we need a license to operate a boat here?

Owning a boat in New Zealand is very easy. Owners and operators of private boats are not required to hold any license, or have the boat registered. However, we recommend that our owners check with their insurance companies to make sure they are meeting the requirements for their cover.

What happens to the boat while we're away?

It stays in our care under our vessel management programme — serviced, securely berthed or stored, and prepared ahead of your return. You'll never arrive to a job list.

What does the vessel management cover?

We are happy to tailor the monthly vessel management to your requirements. From arranging berthing, to washdowns and detailing, to annual servicing and everything in-between, we are happy to manage all requirements on your behalf, while ensuring the work is being charged at a fair price.

What does monthly boat maintenance include?

Our standard monthly maintenance covers a full washdown and detail, engine and bilge checks, battery and electrical checks, and a general inspection of mooring lines and fenders. Anything beyond this — such as servicing, antifouling, or repairs — is quoted separately and always agreed with you first.

Do you have boats available now?

Yes, we hold stock of new boats which are available now. Alternatively, we can work with you to purchase a new boat from the factory specific to your requirements. To view our current stock, please click here.

How long can we stay in New Zealand at one time?

For most nationalities, including the US, UK and Europe, visitors can stay in New Zealand under a tourist visa for up to 90 days.

What areas of New Zealand do you cover?

We are able to cover all areas of New Zealand, subject to availability of marina berths in each region.
